Winter is a season we all enjoy, right? We all love winter. The winter season is my favorite because I want the crispness of the air and the coolness. The dry skin and messed-up hair disappointed me this season. All of us, men and women, probably feel the same. Although the cold, harsh air makes us feel better, it is unsuitable for our skin, hair, and face. The cold air dries out our scalp and skin by removing all the moisture. I have a variety of face and hair packs that will help me survive the harsh winters. But is that it? Should I remember anything? Should I place something? Our lips! Lips have the thinnest layer of skin, so they are the most vulnerable body part in the winter. Oh, those chapped lips! They bring back a lot of embarrassing memories.

Winter is when we take extra care of our hair and face. We try out different face and hair packs to look diva in the winter. But what about the lips? Most of us don’t survive winters without a stick or two of lip balm. I’m sorry, but that is not enough. It’s not enough to survive on one chapstick!

Chappy Lippy: Causes and effects

Some of the reasons our lips chap during winter are our fault. Others are unintentional mistakes. Here’s a list of the most common causes of chapped lips.


The medicines we take can harm our lips. People who take medications to control blood pressure or diabetes often experience chapped or dry lips. Even those who take anti-aging capsules will feel this side effect.

Too Much Citrus

Citrus fruits can irritate lips. You may remember having chapped lips and eating an orange or tomato. Your lips must have been tinged. Excessive consumption of citrus fruits may cause chapped lips.

Stop Licking

We tend to lick our lips as soon as they get dry. We lick our lips, and they get dry again, so we lick them again. This creates a vicious cycle. Saliva evaporates, and along with it, moisture. Licking your lips continuously will cause them to become even drier.


Drinking plenty of water is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Lips are the thinnest part of the skin, so a lack of water is felt first by dry lips. Lips do not contain any oil glands, so they are not a source of moisture. Drinking water is essential to prevent chapped and cracked lips.

You thought that tanning was only one of the disadvantages of being in the sun. The sun’s harmful rays can cause our lips to crack and chap. You’d rather stay at home, right?

Home remedies for chapped and cracked lips

Honey Remedy

Honey is rich in antibacterial compounds suitable for skin and hair. Honey is also the best way to lose weight. How can we avoid using it on our lips? Honey can be applied to the lips and softens the skin. It also treats chapped lips. Honey softens and adds moisture to our lips.

Let honey do the work for you by dabbing it on your lips a few times daily. After a honey spa, you will notice that your lips feel softer. Apply petroleum jelly to get the added benefits of honey. The petroleum jelly acts as a barrier, allowing the lips to absorb the honey’s nutrients better. Allow it to stay on for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove with a soft towel.

Cream and Lemon

The most common treatment for dry lips is milk cream. When my lips become parched, I apply milk cream. Lemon juice is good for the skin and hair. Lemon juice softens the lips and removes all dead cells.

You can do this by adding some lemon juice to some milk cream. Apply it to your lips before bedtime if you don’t plan on going out. If not, keep it in the fridge for two hours.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can also be used to treat chapped and dry lips. Coconut oil can be used to nourish the scalp and lips.

Just a few drops on your finger will do. Rub it gently on your lips, and leave it there. The coconut oil will absorb into your lips.

Olive Oil

Olive oil also works to hydrate the lips, skin, and hair. Olive oil will soft and supple your lips, containing compounds that treat chapped and dry lips.


Cucumbers can keep your face cool and hydrated during the summer. Also, it works on our lips. Cucumber is excellent for the skin in summer and lips in winter.

Apply a small amount of grated cucumber to your lips. Allow it to stay on your lips for a few minutes, then remove it with your fingers. Instead of using the grates, you can use cucumber juice. Rub a cucumber slice on your lips and leave it for a few minutes.

Exfoliate the lips!

Lip exfoliation can help you achieve soft pink lips. Exfoliation is a great way to get that perfect lip texture and avoid discoloration. Exfoliation removes all dead cells. The lips become soft and pink. You can try these easy lip scrubs!

  • Petroleum Jelly You will need an old toothbrush that has soft bristles. Brush your lips gently in circular motions using a toothbrush with petroleum jelly. Repeat this process for two minutes, then rinse with warm water.
  • Sugar & Coconut Oil– Gently rub the mixture on your lips using your fingertips or an old toothbrush. Use lukewarm or warm water to wash your lips.
  • Gulaabjal & Glycerin – Glycerin & rosewater are both great for winter; why not combine them? Mix the liquids in equal parts (a few drops will suffice for your lips). Then dab it on your lips. Massage your lips with circular motions using your fingertips for several minutes. It can be removed with cotton or soft cloth. This mixture can be applied overnight.
