Vomit Kids

indiankids.jpg

This was one of the FAILS from our design session for the upcoming range. It's kinda funny but kinda terrible. Definitely not t-shirt worthy but weird enough to make the blog on a slow news day!

The Almighty Defenders - Cone Of Light

OH MAN I can't wait for this album to drop. The Almighty Defenders are made up of Black Lips, King Kahn & BBQ... all rum-swilling buddies from Atlanta, Georgia. If you've seen any of their individual lives shows you can only imagine what kind of shit they're going to get up to when they're all together.

Tim Laing strikes again

Tim Laing, the UK artist behind some of our most popular prints like "Drifter" and "Peeling Impala", has done another amazing illustration for us in our upcoming collection (due early September). People often ask how we work with guest artists, so i thought I'd show you the process from the original idea to the finished design.

First up were these 2 inspirational images I found. One is an old illustration that I found somewhere along my travels, and the other is the logo of a now defunct Kuwaiti bank. I basically told Tim that I wanted the snakes from the first image to be twisted around each other tighter to form a snake rope, and then I wanted them to be laid out in the same form as the logo.

This was Tim's very first sketch. We decided it would be better if he tightened things up a little, and the snakes need to lose a few pounds, so that the geometric shape of the logo would still be really clear from a distance.

Perfect! Now to start rendering...

Looking good! I love all the patterns that Tim chose for the snakes. And the weighting of dark snakes to light snakes balances out the drawing beautifully.

The finished piece! (detail below). Beautiful, huh.

Check back in at the store on September 1 to see the new collection, featuring this design and one other by Tim, as well as more contributions from Evan Meister, Keenan Marshall Keller, and myself!

Surf City - Zombies

What else can you say about a band called Surf City other than YEEEEEUW? This song kills. It's from the NZ band's upcoming full length, but try to get your hands on the Surf City EP they released a little while back in the meantime.
